About Dr Rao

Dr Rao is a Newcastle Orthopaedic surgeon who specialise in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery. He migrated from India at the age of 10 months and grew up on the Northern beaches of Sydney. Dr Rao attended Sydney Grammar School and then went on to study a Bachelor of medicine and surgery at the University of Sydney. He graduated from medicine in 1995.

Dr Rao trained as an Orthopaedic surgeon in Newcastle, NSW and then in 2008 completed his fellowship in Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle surgery under the guidance of Dr Terry Saxby in Brisbane. In 2009 Dr Rao was awarded his Orthopaedic foot & ankle surgery fellowship by the Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr Rao has conducted further surgical training by attending numerous courses in Thailand, USA, and Australia.

Dr Rao consults at 12 Mitchell Street, Merewether, located at the corner of Union and Mitchell Street, Merewether. He operates at Lingard Private Hospital.

Dr Rao offers friendly, professional service with a particular emphasis on open communication and providing the highest standard of surgical practice. He is a specialist in both sports and reconstructive foot and ankle surgery.

During your consultation, Dr Rao will carefully listen to you as you tell him about your condition. He will then examine your foot/ankle and explain to you the likely diagnosis. Prior to your consultation Dr Rao may request imaging such as an X ray or MRI scan. He will explain to you the pros and cons of your treatment options which will include non-operative modalities and surgery.

Dr Rao has extensive networking with local therapists, his goal is to work with you, your general practitioner, physiotherapist, or podiatrist to give you the best treatment, service, and the correct Orthopaedic advice.
