Meet Dr Rao

Dr Rao is a Newcastle Orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery. He graduated from medicine at the University of Sydney and trained as an orthopaedic surgeon in Newcastle and also in Queensland. He also undertook further training by way of fellowship with world famous Dr Terry Saxby in Brisbane in 2008. He has also conducted further training by attending numerous courses overseas, in Thailand, the USA and right across Australia.

He consults at three locations: at Lingard Medical Centre, 2 Lingard Street, Merewether; at Specialist Medical Centre 2, 239 Excelsior Parade, Toronto; and at Nelson Bay Specialist Rooms, 33 Stockton Street, Nelson Bay. He operates at Lingard Private Hospital.

Dr Rao offers friendly, professional service with a particular emphasis on open communication and the highest standard of surgical practice. He is a specialist in both sports and reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. His particular interest is in the use of platelet rich plasma injections for foot and ankle conditions, but also for knee conditions and hip conditions as well.

Dr Rao will carefully listen to you as you tell him about your condition. He will then examine you and explain to you the likely diagnosis. You may then need to have an MRI scan or further imaging. As much as possible Dr Rao tries to organise this imaging prior to your initial consultation so as to save time and establish a diagnosis as quickly as possible. Dr Rao will explain to you the pros and cons of treatment, including non-operative modalities and surgery. He has extensive networking with local therapists such as physiotherapists, podiatrists, remedial massage therapists and other therapists.

Dr Rao’s aim is to work with you, your local doctor and your allied health professionals to give you the best treatment, service and the correct orthopaedic advice.
